Intellicom has given a new lease of life to an iconic piece of Ireland’s history by delivering 21st Century communications to a beautiful 20th Century replica phone box on the DCU ALPHA Innovation Campus. Now boasting the very latest IP Telephony solution with free phone calls to anywhere in the world, compliments of Intellicom, the historic phone box now enjoys frequent use akin to that of times predating mobile phones.

“The phone box stood in reception at DCU ALPHA and was commented on by every visitor we have had to Intellicom. Rather than let it stand there as a nostalgic symbol of old technology, we wanted to give it a new technological and communications life within its existing form, said Neil Wisdom, managing director of Intellicom. “We approached DCU ALPHA and they were very enthusiastic about Intellicom bringing to life and it’s had an excellent response so far from people on campus. We can deliver very high quality 21st century telephony pretty much anywhere and it’s good to do that in our own office location and in such a great representation of Irish communication history. ”

Intellicom’s head office is based at DCU ALPHA, a business environment that is designed to facilitate networking and visionary thinking. Co-located with Dublin City University, DCU ALPHA is a commercial innovation campus that promotes the growth of research-intensive businesses that are creating the technologies and services of tomorrow.  The Campus provides office, lab and prototyping facilities to over 40 innovative companies, and with employees from a wide range of countries, free phone calls in the iconic phone box are proving popular with those who want to stay in contact with friends and relatives around the world.

Commenting on the project undertaken by Intellicom, Finnian O’Hanlon, operations manager at DCU ALPHA Innovation Campus said, “We’re delighted to work with Intellicom to bring functionality to our replica phone box.  A tangible spirit of collaboration already exists on the campus, and this partnership serves to pervade and foster this ethos, while simultaneously making it easier for our employees on campus to keep in touch with their families worldwide”.
